• Falcon BEST Volunteer & Judge Registration

    The event will take place Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 at the BGSU Stroh Center. Virtual Judges are able to earn up to 12 hours between October 28 - Nov 1.
  • Volunteer Role Descriptions

  • Virtual Judge (Oct 28 to Nov 1)

    • Score teams virtual submissions, that consist of their website, video, t-shirt and engineering notebook. Providing scores for all teams in these categories earns 6 volunteer hours and can be completed on your own during the week prior to the game from (October 28 to Nov 1) 

    Friday Set-UP (Fri. Nov 1)

    • Assist the Falcon BEST Hub with set up at the Stroh. Help assemble the game field and set up the arena for teams to compete on Saturday. Set up team tables, awards table, check-in etc.

    Game Day Volunteers & Judging (Sat. Nov 2)  

    • General Volunteer
      • Assist with team check-in, help teams find their locations for competing in the different events. Help tabulate scores, assist as needed with volunteers and logistics. Game information and packets will be e-mailed prior to game for you to review. In some cases general volunteers will be asked to cover volunteer shortages in other areas.
    • Game/Field Referee & Reset
      • Help judge the competition on the game field watching teams as they compete through all scoring rounds. Judges will be divided into two groups, referee and game reset volunteers. Game information and referee packets will be e-mailed prior to game for you to review.
    • Marketing Judge
      • Watch students present their marketing presentations and score their business pitches. Game information and Marketing Judge packets will be e-mailed prior to game for you to review.
    • Exhibit Display & Interview Judge
      • Score teams individual exhibits and interview team members within their displays about their product and their robot. Game information and Display Judge packets will be e-mailed prior to game for you to review.

  • VOLUNTEER FAQs

  • What do volunteers wear? 

    Volunteers will receive a FREE T-Shirt to wear for the competition. You are welcome to wear this shirt over another shirt. Wear good athletic/walking shoes as you may need to walk around the Stroh to visit teams.

    Will there be food available?

    Volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch. Snacks and water will be available all day in the volunteer room. Additionally concessions will be open and available to purchase. 

    What is the competition day like? 

    Times listed during the event are an estimate. The competition may end earlier and therefore result in volunteers being able to end earlier. This is dependent on the flow of the game and competition. Judged events have different times and requirements. 

    Where do I go to check-in?

    Virtual Volunteers - Will receive information via e-mail about how to register to be a judge, how to log in and submit scores

    Friday Volunteers - Prior to Friday Nov 1st, volunteers will receive an e-mail with instructions on where to meet. All Day & Morning volunteers will most likely start at Kokosing Hall before transitioning to the Stroh. Afternoon volunteers will start at the Stroh center. 

    Game Day Volunteers - Refer to your Volunteer & Judges packet with additional information for Game Day instructions. All volunteers will check-in at the Stroh Center. Volunteer check-in is located on the arena floor. 

    What are my next steps? 

    Keep an eye on your email for your volunteer assignment and additional details. Prior to game day you will receive information about your role responsibilities and duties for review.

    A 20 minute zoom orientation will take place the week before Game Day and will be scheduled based on volunteer roles and availability.

    A morning check-in and game day overview will take place in the volunteer room with grab n go breakfast items (coffee/bagels) to review your specific volunteer duties and responsibilities.
